This is the second release from our favourite local band. The new album is mature and sated. The music is characterized by special originality and mix of variety of styles and approaches. Combined with the wonderful sound (special thanks to Udi Koomran!) and original cover design, it makes this record one of the best avant-rock albums ever issued.

6 pages digipack with original drawings by Igor Krutogolov, also contains 12-pages booklet including band's concert poster.

«Take no prisoners. Play music and sound as if your life mattered, and it depended on how or what you play. If you are really good, and have the right sense of sound and rhythm, you will be as moving as this Tel Aviv combo... What makes this work is, in part, the compositional genius of the band, but also the absolute mastery of the instruments and the intense passion with which they are played. Rather than sounding like random, unrehearsed chaos, pieces sound like gems of minimalism meets klezmer meets jazz meets experimental music... This is the sort of well-done experimental music: the shards of melody, the punch of rhythm, occasional scales, that makes its own sense... The straining saxophone against the repetitive bass beats and thump thump thump of the drums in "Meh o lalot", gradually transforming itself into more complex song fragments which intertwine tightly together. Contrast this with the Middle Eastern-sounding entwining of the original, or the Cracow Klezmer Band interpretation on "Voices in the Wilderness". The Kruzenshtern & Parohod version is played on the edge, as though lives depend on it. The difference, at times, between Tel Aviv and New York… This is the cheeriest, most pleasant, and most mind-bending piece of experimental music I have heard all year. It is an intense pick-me-up for those of us allergic to the overly simple or overy lush. It's punk jazz for those who expect music to be fun and deep at the same time. It's just made all the rest of my favorite albums of the year second favorites.»

«…their brand of avant-klezmer-punk is much more upbeat and playful than most of the Radical Jewish Culture material.. This combined with loving packaging and the band's irrepressible musical personality make Songs as pleasant a surprise as any I had in all of 2004.»

«Kruzenshtern & Parohod takes the Jewish traditional Klezmer music to modern extremes by blending it with free jazz, hardcore rock and a healthy dose of humor to create a refreshing dish, consisted of extremely groovy and loosed rhythm section of ripped-apart bass and kickass drumming, and an instrumental use of hilarious, mostly improvised vocals. Their hardcore leanings are charming, joyful and original, at times sounding like a parody on metal conventions... But these are only partial ingredients of the casserole, which might seem a bit monotonous at first but soon reveals distinctive melodic hooks and unique characteristics that are there to stimulate the listener throughout... With freakish, nearly impossible twists and turns, these instrumental pieces flow naturally from untamed Clarinet-led melodies, to swift avant-garde passages and to the aforementioned hardcore demonstration... Songs is all about nonstop action and cheerful insanity, merging roots with up-to-date beats, and resulting in one hell of a mind-blowing adventure you do not want to miss! (9.25/10)»
